Beef, Sheep and Horse activities are popular
with the state's youth. In the Tennessee 4-H program, approximately
42,000 are involved in the Beef, Sheep and Horse projects and Livestock
and Horse judging activities.
There
are 38 area and 8 state-wide beef, sheep and horse shows that
will be conducted during the spring and summer.
More than 2,000 youth from 80 different counties are anticipated
to exhibit approximately 5,300 head of beef cattle, sheep and horses
in the shows.
State-wide
shows include The Knoxville Spring Junior
Cattle Exposition, The
Tennessee 4-H Horse Championships, The Tennessee
Junior Livestock Exposition (Market Steer and Beef Heifer Events)
and The Tennessee Junior Livestock
Exposition (Market Lamb and Breeding Ewe Events). The educational
programs and activities associated with the shows are carried out
by the Agricultural Extension Service, University of Tennessee and
the Tennessee Department of Vocational Education.
These
shows provide opportunities for 4-H and FFA members to demonstrate
the skills and knowledge they have learned by participating in the
4-H Beef, Sheep and Horse Projects.
