GSD Awards Nomination Materials Due October 20!
September 22, 2006

A very important function of our UT Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta is recognition of fellow faculty and alumni who strive for excellence.

On November 9 at 6:00 in Hollingsworth Auditorium GSD will host the Fall awards banquet where deserving faculty will be recognized for Team, Teaching, Extension, and Research awards. However, each of you play an important role in this process--without nominations from fellow faculty it is possible that some awards may not be given. In addition to faculty awards, nominations will also be accepted for Distinguished Achievement in Agriculture and Alumni Award of Merit. It is our responsibility to nominate deserving faculty and alumni, in this way we promote excellence and reward those individuals who give that extra little bit.

The GSD executive committee encourages you to find qualified people within your departments and within the Institute and nominate them for the awards mentioned above. I am attaching the nomination materials below, however they are also be posted on the GSD website (http://www.agriculture.utk.edu/gsd/).

Please submit all nominations to the GSD Awards Committee, c/o Susan Hamilton, Office of the Dean, 125 Morgan Hall before the close of business on Friday, October 20.

Real Science in the 6-12 Classroom
March 2, 2006

This enrichment project will reach out to disadvantaged schools in Tennessee
which is ranked 49 out of 50 states in educational test scores and opportunities for
young people.

The science of agriculture is often misunderstood by the majority of young people who have no farm background. This program will also provide the opportunity to share with young people about the exciting job opportunities which are available in the field of agriculture. Gamma Sigma Delta, as the honor society of Agriculture, is the ideal society to inform the next generation of agricultural scientists about these opportunities.
