Horse Field Day Scheduled for Tri-State Area
   

The Tri-State Horse Field Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 20, in Dade County, Georgia.

The event begins at 9 a.m. EDT, with registration followed by five morning presentations. After lunch, demonstrations will be conducted. Participants will also have an opportunity to visit with a number of horse supply vendors during the day.

The morning topics are “Is Your Horse in Shape?” “Preventative Health Care for the Horse,” “Water Systems for Horses,” “Horse Keeping on Small Acreage” and “Fencing for Horses.” The afternoon demonstrations will include a training session, hay selection, bits and bitting, hoof care, body condition scoring of horses, and trailer loading.

Speakers are Dr. Frederick Harper, University of Tennessee Department of Animal Science Extension horse specialist; Dr. Gary Heusner, University of Georgia Animal/Dairy Science Department Extension horse specialist; Dr. Robert McKaig, Dade County Animal Hospital; Ms. Renita Beaty, Hamilton County Soil Conservation District; Mr. Jerry Lamb, Rhea County Extension Director; Ms. Betsy Chandler, Certified Horsemanship Association Instructor; Mr. Brent Allen, Chattanooga County Extension Coordinator; Mr. Sheldon Barker, Sequatchie County Extension Agent; and Mr. John Wilson, Marion County Extension Agent.

The field day will be at the Dade County Georgia Cooperative Extension/Ag Center, 114 Pace Drive, Trenton, Georgia. Directions: take I-59 to GA- Hwy. 136, Exit 11; go north on White Oak Gap Road, turn right onto Pace Drive. Follow signs to the Center.

The Tri-State horse area consists of Tennessee counties around Chattanooga, Northwest Georgia counties and Northeast Alabama counties. One hundred individuals attended the first Horse Round Table in the area earlier this year, which was sponsored by the Tri-State Extension Horse Committee.
