Anthony Haynes (standing) of the UT Office of State Relations moderates a forum held at the UTIA campus in Knoxville. More than 50 people attended the forum, during which the public was invited to comment on the decline of rural veterinarian practitioners in Tennessee.
The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, atthe request of the Tennessee General Assembly House Agriculture Committee, has launched a study into Tennessee’s situation with regard to rural veterinarians and to determine why their numbers are apparently declining in a state that boasts one of only 28 colleges of veterinary medicine in the nation.

As part of its analysis of the situation, and to solicit input for public policy recommendations, the UT Institute of Agriculture conducted a series of three public forums for citizens to voice their concerns. One forum was held in each of the grand divisions of the state.

Transcripts of these forums will serve as a record of the public input. These records will also serve as a benchmark for policymakers on this issue in future years. Follow the links listed to review the transcripts from each forum:

The UT Office of State Relations helped to organize the forums. Those with questions should contact Anthony Haynes at (615) 741-8220 or by e-mail at anthony.haynes@tennessee.edu.
