Time for UT Senior Bull Test Sale

(Spring Hill, Tenn.) - Seventy-five performance-tested bulls will soon be sold at the University of Tennessee Bull Test Station, located at the Middle Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center. The Senior Bull Test Sale is scheduled for January 22, 2009 at 12:00 p.m.

The sale features 75 Angus and Gelbvieh bulls that have completed an 84-day test that monitors weight gain performance, as well as frame size and reproductive soundness.  To be eligible to sell, Senior Bulls must meet qualifications in average daily gain and yearling weight.

Test reports are available online at http://animalscience.ag.utk.edu/beef/bulltest.htm.  Or you can visit http://middletennessee.tennessee.edu.  A video copy of these reports can be found at UT Extension offices across the state. For catalogs and additional information, contact Dr. F. David Kirkpatrick at 865-974-7294 or email at fkirkpat@utk.edu

The Senior Bull Test Sale is a public auction.  All bulls were born between September 1, 2007 - December 15, 2007.  Bulls born later will be featured in the Junior Bull Test sale on March 12.

The purpose of the Bull Testing Station is to provide a standard, impartial post-weaning gain test that will furnish records that will be useful in breeding programs.  The Station also provides a market for completely performance-tested bulls and serves as an educational tool for beef cattle improvement.

The Middle Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center is one of 10 outdoor laboratories operated by UT AgResearch, a division of the UT Institute of Agriculture.  In addition to its agricultural research programs, the UT Institute of Agriculture also provides instruction, research and public service through the UT College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the UT College of Veterinary Medicine and UT Extension offices in every county in the state.
