UT Plateau Center to Host Festival for Gardeners

CROSSVILLE, Tenn. – Fall is for gardeners, or so say the Cumberland County Master Gardeners. The group, sponsored by University of Tennessee Extension, is planning a Fall Gardeners Festival for Tuesday, September 29, at the UT Plateau Research and Education Center.

Beginning at noon and running through 6 p.m., visitors will have the opportunity to hear talks from UT faculty and area experts on low maintenance roses, flowering trees, organic gardening and garden photography, just to name a few of the topics. Each talk is scheduled for a particular time, so visitors are encouraged to view the schedule online at to ensure they don’t miss a favorite presentation. The complete flyer is available online at http://plateau.tennessee.edu/

Among the notable speakers are Dr. Susan Hamilton, interim director of the UT Gardens and regular columnist in Tennessee Home and Farm magazine, and Wynnell Busch, a local gardening expert.
Also on hand for the event will be a UT Extension “Ask the Expert” team. Visitors may bring in insects and plants (healthy or diseased) for identification. The Master Gardeners will staff a similar booth. Plant materials brought to the “Ask-the-Expert” and “Ask-the-Master-Gardener” booths will not be returned.

Other activities will include wagon tours of the Plateau Research and Education Center and walks in the Center’s Discovery Gardens.

Snacks will be available for purchase throughout the afternoon.
