UT Institute of Agriculture to Host Cotton Field Day

Cotton farmers across the mid-south should make plans to attend the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture’s Cotton Field Day on Wednesday, September 8, 2010.  Held at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, the Cotton Tour offers nine educational presentations designed to improve cotton production for the region’s farmers.
 
Registration for Cotton Field Day begins at 8 a.m. at the main parking lot.  Field tours begin at 8:30 and conclude at noon.
 
Presentations will focus on several issues currently facing cotton producers including the following:

·     GLYTOL + Liberty Link Weed Management
·     WideStrike and Liberty Link Variety Tolerance to Applications of Ignite
·     Plant bugs, Bollworms and Spider Mites
·     Deficit Irrigation and Monitoring Techniques
·     New Varieties and Planting Dates
·     Glyphosate Resistant Weed Management
·     Nitrogen Fertilization of Contemporary Cotton Varieties
·     Seed Treatment Control of Thrips
·     Cotton Defoliation Programs

All sessions will be led by UT experts.  Pesticide CEU’s and CCA points are available.

The West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center is one of 10 research facilities operated by the UT Institute of Agriculture.  In addition to its agricultural research programs, UTIA also provides instruction research and public service through the UT College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the UT College of Veterinary Medicine and UT Extension offices in every county in the state.
