Cattle Producers Save This Date:
UT's Northeast Tennessee Beef Expo Scheduled for October 7

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — What is the dirtiest four-letter word in cattle production? Dr. Neal Schrick, a professor of animal science at the University of Tennessee, will tell attendees to the 2010 Northeast Tennessee Beef Expo during a luncheon seminar. (Hint: It’s not what you think, if you’ve focused on the digestive process.)

Scheduled for Oct. 7 at the UT AgResearch and Education Center at Greeneville, the Northeast Tennessee Beef Expo is an annual presentation of UT Extension and UT AgResearch. Its purpose is to help cattle producers enhance the efficiency of their operations to make them more profitable.

Registration and a trade show will begin at 7:00 a.m., and the program will begin at 8:00. The cost to attend the day-long program is $10, which includes a steak luncheon. Participants are asked to pre-register with a local UT Extension office by Friday, September 24.

Participants to this year’s event will hear experts from UT and other agencies comment on these topics: fall weed control techniques for pastures and hayfields, how to develop affordable soil fertility programs, replacement heifer selection, economic considerations for cow culling, and the characteristics of different feeds.

“Everyone is invited to participate in the sessions, view exhibits and learn firsthand the recommended practices that will enhance the profitability of their operations,” said Rob Ellis, director of the AgResearch and Education Center at Greeneville.

The UT AgResearch and Education Center at Greeneville is located off U.S. Highway 70 approximately 5 miles south of Greeneville on East Allens Bridge Road. For more information, contact your local county UT Extension office, or call Milton Orr, UT Extension director for Greene County, at 423-798-1710.
