Award Description

This award was established by the late E.J. Chapman, who served the University of Tennessee in a wide range of capacities from agronomist to assistant vice president for agriculture, and recognizes a member of the supporting staff of the teaching, research or Extension divisions.

Citation

Sandy Kitts, the principal secretary in the department of plant sciences was the 2004 winner of the E.J. Chapman Outstanding Service Award. She is known for her outstanding work on the department’s web page, and for the development of power point slides. She is often the first contact for the numerous undergraduate students seeking information about the department, and deals with these young people in a respectful and patient manner. Her colleagues talk often of her professionalism, efficiency and enthusiasm for her job. She is always pleasant and helpful and brings a smile to those who meet or talk to her.
