Citation
This award was presented to a group that comprises UT’s Forage Mineral Survey Team. It’s members are Aaron Fisher, Warren Gill, Deborah Joines, Clyde Lane and Jim Neel.
This well-organized and dedicated team initiated efforts in recent years to determine the source of animal health problems that have been increasingly reported by Tennessee’s cattle producers. The early results of their work led to the recognition of forage mineral deficiencies, and that these mineral imbalances were widespread across the region. They implemented plans in forage analysis, herd management and animal nutrition, and distributed this information through a number of field days, county meetings and through work with county agents. This work has brought considerable recognition to UT Extension and the Ag Institute.
